Wild Forms: pastel painting inspired by a botanical form

With Art Club RVA, discover the richness of oil pastels, a medium that offers much of the depth and vibrancy of oil paint without the long drying times or technical complexity.

In this workshop participants will receive their very own fresh set of oil pastels to use in creating an expressive pastel painting inspired by a botanical form of their choice. We'll begin with an exploration of color theory through a series of small studies, allowing each person to discover a palette that feels uniquely their own. Drawing inspiration from artists celebrated for their bold use of color, including Georgia O'Keeffe and Henri Matisse, participants will layer, blend, and build luminous color on raw canvas to bring their Wild Form to life.

At the end of the workshop, participants will frame their artwork, leaving with a completely finished piece ready to hang or gift, and a set of pastels for creative exploration at home. Light refreshments and prosecco provided (21+). This workshop is beginner friendly and designed with adults in mind, but teens (12+) are more than welcome to participate alongside a parent/adult.
